Custom Hearing Protection

It starts with a look inside each ear to confirm the canal is clear, since wax in the way produces a bad impression. Your audiologist then seats a small foam oto-block in the canal and injects a soft silicone material that sets in a few minutes and captures the exact shape of your ear. The whole appointment runs about 30 minutes.

The impressions go to the lab, where your plugs are built in the material, filter, and color you picked. Most orders come back in two to three weeks, and you return for a fitting visit so we can confirm the seal before you rely on them. Call (480) 265-8067 to schedule the impression appointment.

With normal use and basic care, a quality set lasts three to five years and often longer. The silicone holds up well, and most filters can be swapped if your exposure changes. Replacement is usually about fit rather than failure. Weight changes and the slow reshaping of the ear canal loosen the seal over time, and a loose plug protects nobody.

You will still hear. The point of custom protection is to cut the harmful energy while leaving speech, music, and situational awareness intact, which is what separates it from stuffing foam in your ears. How much it reduces comes down to filter choice, matched to your exposure at the fitting.

Musicians typically choose filters that drop the level 15 to 25 decibels evenly across frequencies, so the mix sounds the same, only quieter.
